In our first processing workshop we were introduced to the basics of coding using Java. Code is a simple set of instructions in a language which the computer can interpret into machine code (binary) to allow the instructions to be carried out. To get started, we learnt some very basic instructions, and these basic lines of code allowed us to produce a simple program. Using the ‘draw’ command, we created a circle on our screen, which we instructed to move around following the user’s mouse. If the user clicked on the right hand side of the screen, so the mouse was further than 400 pixels across, the image was cleared, and the line “user has clicked the mouse” appeared.
This was my first time coding using Java, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to pick up, and how quickly we could create this program. I’m looking forward to furthering my understanding of this coding platform.
